KV Transfix Ltd CNC Router is 1 year old!!!
One year on KV Transfix Ltd took delivery of a SCM CNC router. A CNC router is a computer operated machine that is able to cut panels using specialised tooling. The router at KV Transfix Ltd is able to cut panels from a matchbox size to as big as 4.3metres x 2.2 metres from a whole manner of materials such as wood, plastics, composite materials and even aluminium.
Pete Gilson, Works Director at KV Transfix Ltd said
“As part of a modernisation plan for KVT we looked at our processes for the cutting of panels used in various products manufacture on-site and decided on a CNC Router. We wanted something that was slightly different than a standard sized machine and with the business focused at providing vehicle conversion kits we looked at a router with a cutting area that would be able to cut a panel for the interior of a van from one piece of material, therefore we went for a 4.3metre by 2.2metre bed size.”
“Once the machine had been installed and various employees completed the training it wasn’t long before work started to flood in for the router. As a rough estimate in the last six months the machine has produced over 60,000 panels with a high degree of accuracy and repeatability. Before the router was installed these panels would have been cut out by hand, I can’t imagen how we would have coped without this machine”
Pete went on to say,
“Along with the increased volume of accurate panel coming off the machine it has also given our in-house design and production team some new capabilities for the way in which we design and produce the parts. We are learning more and more each day about the capabilities of the machine and I am confident that this machine will be a great asset to KVT”.
KV Transfix Ltd has also backed the CNC router up with a number of machines such as a panel saw, horizontal drill machine, able to drill dowel holes in the end of the panels and an edge banding machine to glue a decorative edge to a cut panel.
